John Guttman
I went to a show of John Guttman's work today- a German Born photographer who lived and photographed in America for the majority of his life. His work was hit-or-miss- but there were a few photographs that were certainly there- including the one above- entitled the Artist Lives Dangerously.
In other news, I got the book ZONA by Karl De Keyzer- my favorite photographer right now. I'm enjoying it very much.

Trent Parke
Saw some stuff of his that I haven't seen before- this being my favorite.
On another note, I am anxious to see how work this quarter will go. I was almost as productive as I wanted to be last quarter, and managed to grow substantially. This quarter, however, I haven't really wanted to do anything. I hope my attitude will change quickly. I want to keep growing and I want to surprise myself with the images that I will take.

Magnum Expression Photography Contest
Magnum just released the 20 finalists for it's 1st expression photography contest. The entries are worth a good look. I wasn't surprised that Alajandro Chaskielberg was among the finalists- his series has definitely caught the attention of many, winning the burn magazine emerging photographer grant this year, and also appearing in the PDN 30 this spring, among others. However, I see a lot of good fresh work here and I don't have any favorites yet- I have to do a bit of a better look first.

I don't like photography
I don't like photography
I found this from the Conscientious photo blog, and the description on Conscientious was far more interesting than the actual article itself- which is almost as dull, boring, and morbid (not to mention extremely dense and filled with name dropping and few examples), however, I do like this quote:

why is "fine art photography is so frequently dull and distasteful, so paralyzed by moribund subjects and forms?"because I do agree on that in many cases. Photography has not nearly exercised it's full potential as an art form, but can't the author of this article say this in a better and more innovative way than was done? I don't exactly know, any thoughts?

The Nine Eyes of Google Street View
Above, is a fascinating article discussing the abilities of Google Street View to be more than just a recognition of place. John Rafman states in the article "

Although Google’s photography is obtained through an automated and programmed camera, the viewer interprets the images. This method of photographing, artless and indifferent, does not remove our tendency to see intention and purpose in images.
