June Favorites

June is always my favorite month, and this one was no exception. My story on Carl Russell, an expert on logging with horses, published at the beginning of the month, and I had plenty of luck finding features as school ended and the sun came out. I love the variety this month brings, the graduations, playoffs, and surprises in-between.

May Favorites

As soon as April ended, May brought an explosion of warmth, life, and activity to the Upper Valley. I no longer struggled to find interesting features as everyone came outside to work and play. As temperatures rose, so did the variety of assignments, so I'm happy to show a good mix of sports, features, and news assignments this month.

April Favorites

With April came the melting of snow, the start of spring sports, and the true end of winter's grasp. I spent most of the month shooting sports and feature hunting, and it's easy to see how happy I was to be outside (even during the snowy baseball game).

March Favorites

March marks the first signs of spring: town meeting, muddy roads, and people shaking off their cabin fever to start coming together again! While town meeting is a yearly favorite for me, I think my favorite thing to photograph this month was my story on the Upper Valley Fencing Club, and the Match Day ceremony at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College was a close runner up. Lots of outdoor and snow-less photos to come for April!

February Favorites

When I look back at February, I remember a bevy of basketball games, several feet of snow, and tucked in somewhere, a glorious vacation to California. While basketball isn't my favorite sport, I've spent this season trying to make different, more meaningful images than my old standard for this game, and I feel successful looking back. Another favorite part of this month was being able to photograph the middle of James Robarge's trial, when he was being questioned in regards to his involvement in his wife's death two years ago. Robarge was found guilty of second-degree murder. It was a thrilling experience to watch as the prosecuting attorney carefully questioned Robarge and picked apart his alibi. There were some smaller visual surprises I've included too, including a cardboard sled race in Quechee, a maple sugaring demonstration in a classroom (for a photo story on learning the craft of maple syrup making), and a story on a leaky roof in a beautiful old library.

January 2015 Favorites

I started the year with a new work camera, and I spent each assignment in January learning something new about its capabilities. Because of this, a normally bland month became a time of exploring and seeing this month differently than I normally do. January is traditionally the beginning of things, and I photographed many beginnings this month- VT Gov. Peter Shumlin's inauguration, the start of the Winter sports season, early town meeting previews, the first days of a five-week long murder trial. I'm excited to see what February will bring!
