Treasure Island

I spent a couple weeks photographing at Treasure Island, my town's recreational area on Lake Fairlee. Jeff and I talked about doing an essay on a place instead of a typical story for a while now, and I experimented with this while photographing Treasure Island.

July.

Summer is always my favorite time to photograph. Even when it's 90 degrees and humid out, I'm happy to be outside without layers upon layers of wool and still freezing. This July has been a strange one, though, with three straight weeks of rain, which led to major flooding in many areas of the Upper Valley. I spent a few nights in the newsroom wondering which town would be heard first on the scanner as the rained poured down outside. Now, at the end of the month, we're seeing pleasant weather, and the return of photographing traditions, some small news stories, and people enjoying summer. All and all, it's been a varied and interesting July.

Spring Lacrosse Championships- Cheers and Tears (and good light!)

I photographed three area schools competing in Lacrosse semifinals in Manchester, NH a few weeks ago. While two of the teams didn't make it onto the championships, there were a wide range of emotions expressed by all teams involved. And, I was lucky to get some great light too.

Feature Hunting in Vermont

Mia, a Jack Russell Terrier, howls at her owner, Henrey Ilsley to keep mowing the lawn at his home in Bradford, Vt., after he stopped momentarily on May 21, 2013. Mia always mows the lawn with Ilsley, and according to her owner, is a taskmisteress, "She's definitely the boss. If I stop she'll keep barking until I start mowing again." Graduation

I saw this during Colby Sawyer's Graduation in New London, N.H., last Saturday.

I photographed Sharon mechanic John Sears a few weeks ago for a story on how Vermont State Inspection changes will affect local mechanics. I learned a lot about the inspection process and appreciated John's super clean garage with nice light.
