Treasure Island

I spent a couple weeks photographing at Treasure Island, my town's recreational area on Lake Fairlee. Jeff and I talked about doing an essay on a place instead of a typical story for a while now, and I experimented with this while photographing Treasure Island. 20130715-treasure-sp-0307 20130715-treasure-sp-0233 20130715-treasure-sp-0190 20130715-treasure-sp-0117 20130715-treasure-sp-0054

Summer is always my favorite time to photograph. Even when it's 90 degrees and humid out, I'm happy to be outside without layers upon layers of wool and still freezing. This July has been a strange one, though, with three straight weeks of rain, which led to major flooding in many areas of the Upper Valley. I spent a few nights in the newsroom wondering which town would be heard first on the scanner as the rained poured down outside. Now, at the end of the month, we're seeing pleasant weather, and the return of photographing traditions, some small news stories, and people enjoying summer. All and all, it's been a varied and interesting July. 20130704-parade-sp-291 20130708-flock-sp-406 20130702-vn-vigil-sp-177 20130712-racecar-sp-155
