2015 Favorites

Last January I resolved to post my favorites from my job at The Valley News each month, ending a dry spell on my blog that lasted for a year. What I was expecting to be a dull task turned into something I looked forward to every month, sharing my work on Facebook and receiving feedback from my friends and family. I'm excited to continue these monthly updates and see what this year brings.

November Favorites

November was a month of chasing. I raced the dying fall light to look for features and scurried after the presidential candidates that infiltrated New Hampshire, with their plastic smiles and frantic staff. There were moments of quiet, however: the elementary-aged boys silently honoring passing veterans in a parade, the organ-cleaner slowly working to re-assemble a vandalized instrument, and a rowing team gliding on the frigid river, dimming with dusk.

September and October Favorites

September and October for photographers are akin to tax season for accountants, with playoff games, weddings, and back-to-school stories, therefore, I was unable to post my September favorites a month ago, so I'm posting them now. I especially enjoyed working on a photo essay about the thousands of tourists that flood the Quechee/Woodstock area during foliage season, and also had a great time taking a hike up Mt. Kearsarge with Lebanon High School freshmen.

August Favorites

August was an adventure month. I photographed a rodeo, a glider camp, a puppy-rescue, and a number of things in-between. As the days start getting shorter, the light keeps getting better, and it's been fun to play with even mid-day light these days. As I move on to September, I see even better light, along with more soccer and politicians on the horizon.

July Favorites

Each Summer, there's one month that I seem to photograph better than the others, and though August has barely begun, July has risen to be a strong contender. The heat brought out the water frolickers, and the strange moments, and while the sun beat down overhead, I found shade and pockets of good light. Here's to you, July!
